Three Lanarkshire brothers have written and illustrated a book that commemorates the 120 year history of Celtic Football Club.
Patrick , Tommy and Allan Canning have produced a 242-page tome called ‘Celtic - The Will To Win’.
In this visually stunning full-length comic book story of Celtic Football Club, Tommy Canning conveys through his superb illustrations the rich history of the Glasgow club from its founding and early years through to the present day.
The landmark moments in the club's history are proudly recounted, including Brother Walfrid's efforts to start a football team to help the poor, the lifting of the European Cup, the winning of nine league titles in a row under Jock Stein and the breathtaking road to the UEFA Cup final in Seville in 2003.
The Celtic Story also brings to life many of the club's past greats - players such as Jimmy Quinn, Patsy Gallacher, John Thomson, Jimmy McGrory, Charlie Tully, Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions - and celebrates its current stars, including Aiden McGeady, Shunsuke Nakamura, Artur Boruc and Stephen McManus.
It up-dates a version of the book published by the brothers in 1988 to mark Celtic’s centenary.
Patrick, a lifelong Celtic supporter since his father took him to Celtic Park for a European tie in1966 wrote the books.
He said: “It features player and manager profiles with Gordon Strachan as current manager.
“The book brings to life past players that young supporters have perhaps heard of but never seen.
“The book also illustrates matches and star players like Jimmy Quinn from the early 1900s, Patsy Gallacher 1920s, and John Thomson, the goalkeeper killed during an Old Firm match.
“The book goes right through the decades and includes Jimmy Johnstone from the 1960s and 1970s as part of the Lisbon Lions team, and information on players like Kenny Dalglish and Henrik Larsson, as well as a Tommy Burns’ profile and a memorial, all written within the context of the ongoing story of the football team.”
Patrick added: “It is written for anyone interested in Celtic or on the history of football, the changes in trends and football culture and fashion.”
Tommy and Patrick also painted the portrait of Jock Stein that hangs in the Jock Stein Lounge at Celtic Park.
