A dirty weekend looms for Dunoon CSC
The New World Championships is fast approaching – Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June 2008 more than 100 teams from around the globe will descend on Strachur in Argyll determined to be crowned Swamp Soccer world champs.
Dunoon Celtic Supporters Club lost out 4-1 on penalties to the Fuddy Muckers in last year's final and hope this will be their year to be World Champions.
Frank McAvennie presented the trophy to the winners in 2007
The rules of Swamp Soccer are almost identical to normal football although with no offside.
Throw-ins, free-kicks and penalties are all decided by a referee but must be taken by hand on to a chosen foot. By which time your standing foot will be cemented in the mud!
Making the pitch perfect for Swamp Soccer is one of the most expensive aspects of organising the tournament.
JCBs dig up the land before top soil is added. If it's dry and sunny, water from nearby rivers is added to make it a quagmire.
