Birmingham City await an answer from Bobo Balde as Alex McLeish attempts to augment his squad before the Championship kick-off against Sheffield United on Saturday.

The Celtic defender, who is available on a free transfer from Celtic, is mulling over his future.

Sunderland seem favourites to land him, but the Guinea international wants longer than the 12-month deal they have offered.

Blues have also made a pitch to Balde, who has been told he is well down the pecking order at Celtic.

"I am trying to get a couple of players in before the season starts," said McLeish
