Andreas Hinkel believes his recall to the German international team is down to Celtic's regular participation in the Champions League.

The defender, who moved to Celtic Park from Sevilla in January, played in Germany's 3-3 draw with Finland on Wednesday.

"I think the Champions League is one of the reasons I was called up," said Hinkel.

"The national coach told me Celtic are a big club and they always play in the Champions League.

"I played the last half year and I am looking forward to playing this year."

Celtic open their Champions league campaign with a home tie against Aalborg on Wednesday.
