Former Derry City favourite Pat McCourt captained the Hoops for last night’s friendly match against his former club in front of a packed Brandywell stadium.

Played in atrocious conditions, and with both sides bereft of first team stars Derry City stood up well to the challenge.

It was McCourts night however and he courted an appreciative audience. Celtic’s Japanese starlet, Koki Mizuno sparkled on the right flank while Crosas, Loovens, and Hutchinson each had a good game

Celtic looked quite sharp in the first half and one goal separated the sides at the break after Ben Hutchinson, curled a 25 yards free over the defensive wall and into the back of Derry keeper, Darren Quigley's net, in the 36th minute.

Derry had a few chances of equalising and could have turned the game around ,Sean Hargan failed to hit the target with a close range header and in the last minutes of the game Kevin Cawley struck well wide of the target.

Derry City – Quigley, McCallion, Hargan, Higgins, Martyn, McHugh (McDaid, 82), Callaghan, McClean (McAuley, 75), Stewart, Harkin (Nash, 71), Sharkey (Devlin, 82).
