McManus rallys the troops
CELTIC captain Stephen McManus has ordered the team to shake off last nights dissapointment of crashing out of the last 16 in Europe's elite tournament but instead to focus on what has been achieved this season
lamenting Barca’s whirlwind start,he said
“We wanted to get to halftime with a clean-sheet,” “We were disappointed to concede. “When we conceded the goal there was still a long way to go, but we never performed.
“In the second half the players were braver. We were playing one of the best sides in the world, but we passed the ball better and didn’t acquit ourselves too badly.”
He said: "There's certainly nothing to be ashamed of in being put out by a team of Barcelona's calibre.
We can be proud of the way we acquitted ourselves over the two games against them.
"Last year we went out at this stage after extra-time to AC Milan, but we are not looking at it that this is as far as we can go.
"We always look to improve and want to go further.
"At the same time, not reaching the quarter-finals is nothing to be ashamed of.
McManus admits that retaining the league is Celtic's main priority and that whatever happens on the European stage is a bonus
"At the start of this campaign, our main aim was to defend our league title, and that remains the No.1 priority for everyone at the club. So, anything that happens in Europe is a bonus.
"But you still want to get better and better."
