Strachan sings Scott Brown’s praises

Gordon Strachan isn’t normally one to single out individual performances. However, after watching his side maintain their three point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League with victory over Hibernian, the Celtic boss had words of praise for one man in particular – Scott Brown.

Strachan said that Brown – who was playing against his former club yesterday – was ‘terrific’ and did ‘everything’. He went onto say that he considers Brown a player that has ‘the lot’. These are very high words of praise from Strachan and they are well and try deserved in my opinion.

Referring specifically to yesterday’s performance, Brown was tremendous. He didn’t stop working throughout the 90 minutes. He seemed to play a part in every positive Celtic move and the fact that his display was rewarded with a goal, Celtic’s fourth, was more than justified. It topped off a very encouraging attacking performance from the Bhoys and one which Brown had a lot to do with.

So, was this a one off with Brown or has he been this good all season? Well, in my opinion – he has drifted in and out of games. By his own admission, his passing can sometimes go astray and perhaps he is one of those players that tries a little too hard. Which I suppose isn’t the worst fault to have.

Something he has managed to do is find the net twice in three games. This needs to keep happening. For him to be the midfielder we all want him to be – he must score goals more regularly. Brown only managed three goals in the whole of last season and he has already matched that this campaign, so he should no be aiming to hit at least double figures by the time the season is out. The football odds will certainly be favouring him to do so after yesterday’s game.

As for Celtic’s overall performance against Hibernian, well it was what we have all come to expect. Quite simply, Celtic have too much attacking ability for the majority of the teams in this league. There may be some defensive lapses at times, but however many the opposition score, I am confident the Bhoys can go one better. For example, Celtic have won three games already this season when the opposing team have scored twice.

Overall, domestically, everything is extremely rosy. Europe is continuing to be an uphill battle, but with the team sitting at the top of the Scottish Premier League, there should be plenty to cheer about come the end of the season.
