We are lucky to have Big Jan
Former Hoops hero Pierre van Hooijdonk says Celtic are lucky to have Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
Van Hooijdonk watched his fellow Dutch Colossus destroy Feyenoord in De Kuip Stadium on Sunday night scoring twice against his former rivals
Big Pierre said: "Celtic looked good on Sunday. Feyenoord were missing a lot of players so it was hard to tell exactly how good Celtic were but the strikers scored some fantastic goals.
"I also thought Aiden McGeady was excellent. Georgios Samaras got a good goal and Jan got two.
“But the one thing you can never say about Jan is that he is not giving 100 per cent effort. He is always giving 100 per cent.
“He has qualities and he has his minuses.
“But it’s up to the team to get the get the best out of him, to play to his strengths.
“For me he is brave and I regard him as strong in the air. So it surprises me when I hear people say he is not good in the air.
“It’s a different kind of football in Holland of course, but Jan is brave and is not scared to put his head in where it hurts.
“You need to be brave to play for Celtic and he has got that. Look at last year when he was very important and scored vital goals.
“Feyenoord wanted him and at least 16 of the 18 teams in our league would sign him.
“In fact, I’m almost sure that PSV would even want him back.
“But if I was Jan I would stay at Celtic — because I think British football is good for him.”
